Abstract: The flow fields on the 700mb level around the two monsoon areas of southern and eastern Asia auring the period of May to July, 1979 were analysed by means of synoptical-statistical method. It is shown that both the mean current patterns and the characteristics of the series of departure flow are much different in these two monsoon areas.The flow field and it's seasonal variation in the eastern Asia are much more complicated than those in the southern Asia. The major eigenvectors evaluated in the two areas have clear and definite significations and the variations of their time-coefficients are closely related with the weather and circulation.
