Abstract: In this paper, a new technique is designed for calculation of the grid-point winds over the South China Sea.Considering the data-spareness over the sea and the discontinuity of the wind field across the coastline,a fine mesh objective analysis of the pressure field over the sea is made at first using a new four point scan" technigue, and then followed by a modification considering the actual winds and the "pseudo-geostrophic (gradient) Winds".In accordance with the above princible, a full set of programs for the calculation and data management has been completed which was proved convenient, time-saving and satisfactory through a five-month operational experiment.
