Abstract:
This paper investigates the relationships between the maximum distances of the sea clutter echoes and the sea surface winds and waves. 130 of the sea clutter echoes cases from September 1983 to December 1984 which were examined by Shantou Radar Station. There were correlative wind date from Dongshan, Nanao and Zhelang Station and shipping records. Through contrast analyses, two linear regression equations were found, which said that the sea clutter echoes correspond with about sea surface winds in previons one and six hours, their average absolute errors being 1.23 m/s and 1.36 m/s respectively. Besides, through studying relationships of the sea surface winds with the waves, a relative curve is established, which says that the sea clutter echoes correspond with the sea wave heights. They can basically satisfy demands for the marine meteorological service.
