Abstract:
Based on historic presentations in local records and climatological data for South China in modern tomes, a series of grouped winter temperatures is set up for 1470-1988 and that of droughts and floods is also reduced and supplimented. The two series are used to study the characteristics of the climatic change. The result shows that prominent periods exist for durations of cold and warm, droughts and floods at intervals of 10-12, 19-22, 31-37, 40-45, 80, 100 and 120-140 years. In the past 500 years or so, there are 4 alterations of cold and warm years, and 3 lengths of drought and 4 lengths of flood.
