Abstract:
The quasi-biennial oscillation (QBO) and quasi-3. 5-year oscillation (SO) are evident in most of the 47 selected observation stations across this country after applying analyses of power spectra to their monthly mean temperature records from Jan. 1993 to Dec. 1987.A method called complex empirical orthogonal function (CEOF) is used to study the components of the QBO and SO of the temperatures in 160 stations in China, suggesting the oscillations are of mixed propagation and stationary waves. One of the propagating paths starts from North China and extends to the south and west while the other sets off trom South China, going north and west. This paper also applies analyses of lag correlations to air temperatruets in China and SST for th equatorial eastern Pacific.
