Abstract:
Based on a statistic model that rebuilds general radiation serials, a new model has evolved that derives circulation field for the tropical Pacific from simultaneous SST distribution. Verification of monthly mean 500 hPa heihts for the winter months (January, February and March), 1982-1989, suggests steady reconstruction. Monthly mean SST data that is available for the area are then used in extrapolation to reproduce monthly mean 500 hPa heights for the same period (Jan.-Mar.), 1966-1978. The test has shown that it is possible for the tropical circulation data in a longer period to be reconstructed with the SST data that is further used.
