Abstract:
In this paper, three characteristic quantities, which are echo size S, moment invariant M and shape descripter R, are extracted from digital weather radar data colleted in convective precipitation. They are then used as judgment factors to track strong radar echoes. Based on the tracking technique mentioned above, the movement of radar echoes are forecasted. Experiments have been made using true radar data from seven precipitation processes. The results show that the tracking and nowcasting accuracy are satisfactory.
