Abstract: Twenty years of wind stress and SSTA data for the tropical Pacific are studied by the EOF method so that the characteristic modes of spacial distribution and features of temporal variation are revealed.It was shown that the first eigenvectors of both the field of wind stress and sea temperature have the same features of variation,representing the interaction and coupling relationship at this temporal and spacial scale between the ocean and atmosphere and being consistent with the El Nino cycle.
