Abstract:
The relationship between the SSTA field over Northern Pacific and the precipitation anomaly during summer half year in China is studied by using singular value decomposition method. The results show that (1) in average, there is significant correlation between the SSTA fields in autumn and winter and rainfall for each month from the end of spring to midsummer in China;(2) the SSTA field in the equatorial eastern Pacific during autumn-winter has strong influence on the rainfall in April and May in the coming year for the eastern part of the Yangtze River Valley and in the following July for the eastern Plateau and middle-and-lower reaches of the Yellow River; (3) there is close relationship between SSTA field in the middle and eastern equatorial Pacific from the prime of the summer to winter and the rainfall for the Yellow River and Huaihe River Valley and the Yangtze River Valley in the preceding June or July, respectively.
