Abstract:
The paper calculates the time series of temperature and precipitation indices in five regions over Guangdong Province in the period of 1954—1990,and discusses the climatic trends and periodic changes within three different durations.By using graded anomalous indices, the climatic anomalous changes in Guangdong Province are analyzed. It is shown that there is obvious difference in the climatic characteristics, especially in the precipitation,in various regions of Guangdong; the graded indices are well periodic at 7 or 11 years, respectively for temperature in the winter half year and precipitation in the summer half year, averaged over the whole province; the annual graded indexes for temperature and precipitation are 7,13 and 11 years in periodic variation; the anomalous indexes for annual temperature and precipitation are 14 years and 2,7,5 and 8 years in periods; on the other hand,a significant period of 14 years exists for the comprehensive annual anomalous index and most of the years with greatest anomaly across the province are in the El Nino year and the following year.
