Abstract: In this paper,a simple method to deal with the topography of Qinghai-Tibet plateau in a numerical forecasting model is introduced,i.e.,at the beginning of the calculations,we replace the plateau by an airmass dome which is stable,balanced,and dynamically coordinated with the real atmosphere surrounding it.This scheme has been applied to a 5 - layer limited regional prediction model for the 24h predictions of heavy rains in central China during the Mei-Yu season. The results are encouraging.
