Abstract: In this paper, a convergent scheme of partitioning the wind field into divergent and rotational components over a limited domain is introduced and compared with some methods in current use. Computation and intercomparison of real case show that the scheme has good capability of reconibinating wind fields due to the inclusion of forcing functions within the domain and of lateral values in processes of iteration. The rotalional and divergent winds so decomposed yield more rational results of relative diagnostic study.
