Abstract: On the basis of appropriate assessment of all objective prediction precedures used in China and by use of a new scheme of "regression coefficient estimation", a number of sub-models were selected for merits of satisfactory skill and ready operation to integrate into an optimized objective prediction model including numerical prediction products. Aimed at the responsibility waters of the South China Sea, the composed model was proved to be consistent in performance and improved in forecasting skill, after trial forecasts with 1993 samples of tropical cyclones and experiments with real cases taken from typhoon-affected rainy season of 1994.
